Staff training- Learned helplessness
This training explores how well-intentioned adult support can sometimes lead to increased dependence in young people. It highlights how stepping in too quickly, over-helping, or removing challenge can prevent students from developing independence and a sense of control over their own choices. It encourages adults to reflect on when to support and when to step back, promoting a more balanced approach that builds resilience and ownership.
There is a powerpoint and speakers script to support the delivery.
