Lesson 1: Solving two step equations with fractional answers - moving into forming and solving equations with algebraic perimeter Lesson 2: Solving linear equations involving fractions - moving into a peer assessment activity Lesson 3: Solving linear equations with two unknowns - moving into forming and solving linear equations with shapes Lesson 4: Solving all of the above with fractions. Finishing with an “exit ticket” as a final assessment of the students’ ability on this topic. Each lesson includes a “my turn” / “your turn” style introduction. ABCD assessments, a main activity and an more challenging task to be used as a plenary. Thanks!

Low Stakes Quiz Grade 4 GCSE Foundation Maths

Collection of 6 quizzes. Questions involve a range of topics that have been seen on the Edexcel Foundation Tier Papers over the past couple of years. Each quiz has a matching set of diagnostic questions, which are intended to help support the students as they work through the quiz. Rather than telling them how to do a question the intention is to remind the students of some key points that will help them break down the problem for themselves. Try interrupting the class every 10 minutes or so, and run through a couple of the diagnostic questions. Hopefully they can encourage a discussion that will allow students to re-view vital information that will help them do the quiz successfully. This will give them a chance to reflect on any of the questions they have already completed or it could support them on a future question. Thanks!

2 Resources
Each quiz has a selection of GCSE examination questions, adapted from the Edexcel papers from the past 3 years. Alongside the quiz there is a set of diagnostic questions, which are to be used with the whole class at intervals whilst they are doing the quiz. Each diagnostic question is linked to one of the quiz questions and will help the students review their answers or highlight some important details so that they can answer the question on the quiz.

Simplifying, Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, Dividing and Solving with them. Teacher version to be used on the IWB with students, includes all answers. Student version is designed for students to download onto a one to one tablet device so that they can progress through the tasks at a pace suitable for each individual (could be printed out as you work through each lesson). Answer clouds are there for students to be able to self-assess their progress when on a task, and be able to ask for support or check for errors as soon as they answer a question that is incorrect. Teacher version also includes assessment points as ABCD response cards as well as exit tickets, which all have a feedback / response set of questions that they are linked to.

I have made this for my second top set year 11’s, who have already studied this a number of times in the past,. I have tried to put a focus on how questions involving whole numbers with algebraic fractions for the stronger students in the class.

Mental Percentages

I have put together a lesson that covers finding mental percentages with decimal answers, which is then followed by reverse percentages. I have found over the past couple of years that KS3 students are much better with mental percentages than what they were before the curriculum changes. The quiz attached was completed using socrative before starting the topic so I can assess what the students know, and adjust the plan according to that. Enjoy!
