A simple activity designed to help practice using formal language. In the lesson, a brief explanation of why we need formal language and then a couple of examples to work through as a class. Plus, a set of informal sentences to correct, sentences in Widgit/picture support, and examples of formal language to use. I created this resource for an early English lesson in a balanced argument unit of work.

This is a GPS lesson that I created to follow a Twinkl ‘identify a main clause’ lesson - which is referenced in this lesson. The children are required to already know a range of subordinate clauses - this does not teach any but is practice for using them. A simple process for generating sentences around a picture stimulus. This PPT shows models for 8 levels and will need an adult to provide a new stimulus and explain the sentence format when delivering it. Language Through Colour is used to help with some sentencing.

The first lesson of Living Things Y4 science unit based on exploring sorting objects in different ways. Minimal PPT and support sheet instead of sentences on PPT. Required - a variety of objects to sort and/or pictures of animals to sort. Models different sorting styles with examples, children then attempt. Discuss benefits of each style. End by having children record the benefits of each style. Support sheet for those that find writing sentence difficult.
