WJEC Health and Social Care 2026 Lesson 2 Meaning of Growth and Development

(0)
This lesson introduces one of the first key concepts in the new WJEC GCSE Health and Social Care and Childcare specification: the difference between growth and development. Pupils learn that: Growth means physical changes to the body, such as growing taller, gaining weight or experiencing puberty. Development means changes in functional ability - what an individual can do, such as walking, communicating, managing emotions, remembering information and forming relationships. Growth and development continue throughout the life cycle and are closely connected. The activities gradually build understanding through picture prompts, sorting tasks, class discussion, a case study about Sam, a true-or-false quiz and an exit ticket.
