Here is a document which uses the information provided in Appendix 2 of the National Curriculum. It is a document which outlines the progression from Y1-Y6 in a much more accessible and efficient way. I made this document based on the length and complexity of the National Curriculum. It is perfect for supporting staff with planning progression through English.

Here are nine English lessons based on Jon Klassen’s ‘The Skull’. As he is a wonderful author to explore when teaching speech, I decided to create lessons based on The Skull for my class. I used these lessons in Y4, but the lessons could be suitable for Y5 too. The lessons explore the text using reading style questioning, before exploring direct speech and the punctuation required. My class loved this text and found its haunting and creepy nature exciting. I would not use this text with KS1 due to themes of death. I would only use it with a mature Y3 class. I hope your class enjoy this work and that is saves the teacher time!
