PLEASE READ. Fluency, close and extended are linked to our whole-school reading planning. The lessons are on an ActivInspire flipchart. This can be downloaded for free from Promethean. I have included the lessons as PDFs but they export 2 slides to a page. Answers for the questions in the lessons are on the slides. There is then a SATs question activity to do at the end as a final lesson.

My Reading group needed more practice of questions that had an added layer than just ‘What impression do you get of this character?’ There are 2 texts to explore here, then an ActivInspire flipchart with the questions on. There is a teacher model question, a question to do together and then 2 questions for the students to work on independently. I have included the flipchart as PDF pages if needed.

These were created for my GDS group, based on question level analysis from mock tests. There is a fiction text and a non-fiction text, with SATs-style questions and mark schemes.

I have collated together different question types/stems for some of the reading domains for KS2 - so far, I have done Retrieval, Inference and Vocabulary. These will be used in Reading sessions to ensure that students are used to the language (and types of questions) used in the SATs. Note: These have been updated to include 2022 and 2023 sentence stems.

These comprehension questions have been put into a SATs-style test (though I have changed the format to make it easier to print!) The non-fiction extract is based on Katherine Johnson from ‘Fantastically Great Women who Worked Wonders’. This is an activity set up like a SATs Reading test booklet, but just on one text. Perfect for practising speed or test technique. The language and layout of the questions used is similar to the SATs. Answers are provided. This is based on a chapter from the book Pog, which is available for free on LoveReading4Kids. This is 4 Reading lessons and 3 sets of questions based on the first chapter of The Swifts. The extract for this text is available for free on LoveReading4Kids. There is a fluency development lesson to begin with, before 3 lessons on retrieval, vocabulary and inference questions using question stems from previous KS2 SATs so that students become familiar with the test language and layout.
