This poem tells the story of Viking invasion of the British Isles. The Viking and Anglo-Saxon struggle for the Kingdom of England to the time of Edward the Confessor: Viking raids and invasion resistance by Alfred the Great and Athelstan, first king of England further Viking invasions and Danegeld Anglo-Saxon laws and justice. This would be a perfect performance poem for a class assembly on the Vikings. I had an image of small groups of children rowing an imaginary longboat the the beat of a drum and chanting each verse of the poem!

I created this poem when I taught Year 5. Our class assembly was based on the topic ‘Victorians’ and children recited verses in groups. Could be used for reading aloud, or as an introduction to Queen Victoria’s life story. Hope you find it useful!

Here is a performance poem I wrote for my Year 5 class when we studied the Victorians for a class curriculum topic. Children performed this as a rap, in groups, for a class assembly. Could be used as an introduction for a lesson on Victorian inventions.

I wrote this poem to be used as part of a Year 6 class assembly, describing Titanic as she struck the iceberg and sank. The children enjoyed adding emphasis and drama to this poem and it gave our assembly a different perspective, rather than simply reading out facts.
