KS4 - Healthy Relationships and Managing Unwanted Attention

(1)
Teach students to manage situations where people are exhibiting or experiencing unhealthy relationship behaviours or stalking and harassment. These three lessons support delivery of elements of the relationships aspect of statutory RSE and have been produced by the Alice Ruggles Trust in collaboration with (and accredited by) the PSHE association. The three lessons form part of a series, with the first lesson focusing on promoting healthy relationships, the second on managing unwanted attention and the third one on reducing inappropriate behaviour. Each lesson is classroom-ready and comes complete with accompanying PowerPoints and handouts together with comprehensive notes on delivery.

This new Key Stage 3 lesson supports students to identify unacceptable behaviour, to know why it is unacceptable and when it should be reported, and to recognise the factual definition of stalking. It explains how the term ‘stalking’ is used in modern language and the effect this can have, how to report incidents, and how get support for oneself or for others if concerns arise.

Recognising and Responding to Stalking

This school assembly consists of a powerpoint with accompanying walk-through notes explains what stalking is and why it is so dangerous. The assembly links to the impactive video about Alice Ruggles who was stalked and then murdered by an ex-partner, but there is an option to replace this with an animated video which is less hard-hitting. By the end of the assembly students should be able to recognise what stalking is and understand it should be taken seriously, know where to go for support or information if they think they are being stalked and know how to help a friend or family member who they think may be at risk . We’ve also included a handout/poster of sources of help for victims The assembly complements the Alice Ruggles Trust’s existing PSHE Association-Accredited Relationship Safety Resource and can be delivered in person or online, by school staff or volunteers from the Alice Ruggles Trust.
