Scrooge Timed Essay Response Lesson

(0)
A powerpoint used to scaffold and support students when attempting a 25 marker style essay (in preparation for their English Language and Literature Unit 2 essay) on Scrooge’s sense of belonging. This powerpoint provides key success criteria for students, modelled examples, key points for them to consider and elements of green pen self assessment to complete along the way. I structured this so that pupils wrote their introduction and first paragraph, then we green pen assess against criteria (giving pupils ownership over improving and critiquing their work). Then, they write 2 more paragraphs in timed conditions and we repeat the same process. By the end of the lesson, pupils had had a good go at an ACC essay, which was annotated and improved upon as they wrote! The ‘self-assess as you go’ structure also means less marking on our end!
