Independent Novel Study
Independent Novel Study to suit ANY fiction Book. This resource can be used with whole class, reading groups or to compliment teaching. Keeps learners engaged and focused on exploring a novel and developing reading skills and comprehension.
This resource offers 4 weeks of reflection and comprehension questions that can guide literature circles or reading groups. Additionally there is a choice board for each week with activities for learners to choose from. In each slide the meta skills are highlighted and allow you to ask the learner how they have developed the skill through the task.
This is a Power Point and can easily be assigned through Google Classroom or Teams for learners to work on independently or for you to display and use in the classroom. Alternatively, you could use individual slides as a class lesson. I have included examples of finished tasks on the slides so learners can create a Success Criteria and see what a good example looks like. This allows you to set high expectations of the task and supports learners who are struggling to layout or get started on a choice board task.
I use this every year with my class. I use it first with my class as we explore a class novel together then they complete it independently with their own book. This can easily be adapted as a homework assignment as it has been designed to be completely independent.
