Everything you need to know for Fuels Lessons Edexcel GCSE (aid for all other exam boards too)
I always find that for schools struggling to complete content in preparation for Exams in time then lack an OVERVIEW of what is actually required for just purely exam revision.
With learners ranging from those who enjoy every little detail to those who want to just get it done and over with, I devised Powerpoints to help very quickly to ONLY focus on ‘key -knowledge’ on the topic at hand needed for the exam questions.
Each slide is covering the fundamentals of what isrequired to be understood and based on ability you can either whizz through each slide or may find you can ‘elaborate’ by adding exams questions or extra slides specifically targeted to the key areas needed to be understood and catered to your class’s needs.
For instance, Edexcel ‘What Fuels are’ exam questions focus on 1 mark in a multiple choice where there will be a range of answers and the student needs to pick the right one. Or it may focus this question on a single sentence answer or maximum 3+ mark answer. For example ’ What are fuels?’ where the answer can and may need to be elaborated. The requirement how to answer this can be from picking say in a multiple choice section a) Alkanes b) Hydrocarbons c) fossils d) petrol e) crude oil
where a) Hydrocarbons would be the most desirable answer as Alkanes are specific hydrocarbons (questions is only generalizing) and the other 3 are ‘forms or sources’ of fuel but don’t explain what fuels are actually called officially in chemistry.
Longer answers will require the explanation including words such as, hydrocarbons, combustion and the release of energy to award marks as needed. One can then elaborate based on what else the question may ask or how big the mark scheme is as for instance, the sources of fuels can be mentioned and how fuel sources are formed.
I used these for revision and catch up for both year 10 and year 11 classes preventing me going off course and allowing for more time to practice exam questions as well as enough time to include the ‘cracking’ practical and demonstrating complete combustion.
These can also be used for cover lessons as quick overview revision.
