Click through this thoughfully paced PowerPoint resourse (includes solutions), which teaches the essential language of algebra. Spans 2-3 class lessons.
This resource is for students who are being introduced to algebra for the first time (Year 7 in Australia or equivalent). It covers the language of algebra, inuding; variable, pronumeral, constant, term, expression, equation and co-efficient. It also covers algebraic conventions inculding; how to show multiplication/division/indices, correct orderring of number and pronumerals and the importantance of using an algebraic ‘x’.
All concepts have questions (with solutions) that allow students to show their understadning. The slides are annotated with instructional symbols showing students where to take important notes, where to copy important examples and when to complete an activity such as a think/pair/share. Also annoted in the slide notes are suggestions for the teacher about how to maximimise student understanding.
Within the slides are links to videos and fluency games which I have created to assist the students learning and consolidation of the topic.
