Adding Using the Make Ten Strategy

(0)
This is a lesson presentation and two worksheets for a lesson on bridging ten using the ‘make 10’ strategy. It models making ten using tens frames and moves on to a written strategy. ‘Making ten’ involves making an equivilent equation that is easier to solve and is the basis for some efficient mental methods. The PPT is fully animated and models the strategy fully, reflecting the worksheets closely. Highly visual and simple way of teaching the concept for the first time. Three worksheets are included at three levels. Two remain with the practical strategy, the other moves on to written methods. I use this with Year 2 alongside practical work with tens frames. A complete, no prep lesson just open and click!

Place Value - Year 2: Week 1

A weekly plan, starter/warm ups, teaching slides and differentiated worksheets covering: -Numbers to 20: representing with objects and pictures -Partitioning numbers to 20 -Representing multiples of ten -Using a Place Value Chart -Partitioning numbers to 100 The planning covers White Rose Maths small steps 1-6. All lessons and sheets are contained in one PPT. Each lesson has a warm up that revisits previous learning. Children could respond on whiteboards or verbally. Each lesson has differentiated worksheets and ideas for practical activities. A plenary is included for each lesson, they take the form reasoning questions. The lessons are based on the White Rose CPA approach and uses conceptual and procedural variance to build fluency. In the interests of clarity I want to explain that these materials are not the same as the White Rose materials, and do not stick slavishly to the order of teaching. I find that my children tend to need more opportunities for practice and consolidation. If your school has a more rigid approach, these may not be the plans for you!
