I designed these differentiated worksheets and supporting flip-chart after teaching the four operations in detail to a Year 6 class. The resources were made to encourage children to think more deeply about the language of mathematics and the order of operations prior to solving and jumping head first into calculating. The lesson includes plentiful opportunities for reasoning (e.g. through prove right/wrong questions) as well as supporting visuals such as bar models and part-part-wholes. The supporting worksheets are differentiated two-ways and easily adaptable.

Bar Modelling: Fractions of amounts and Finding the whole from a given Fraction (mastery)

After teaching these objectives in isolation, I made these resources to prepare Year 6 for challenging SATs questions where there need to decide whether to find a fraction of an amount, or whether to find the whole from a given fraction. Bar modelling is used throughout the flip-chart and worksheets to support the children with their understanding and working methods. The worksheets have been designed with mastery and reasoning in mind. This is two days of work. Some of the slides on the flip-charts link to the worksheets. You can easily adapt and insert the name of your staff/school in the questions so they are personalised with your class in mind.

Entire topic (six/seven lessons) planned and resourced for the Year Earth and Space topic. All the worksheets included are my own. The topic includes Oreo diagrams to represent the phases of the moon, line graph and investigative work to explore night and day and ends with a nice piece of art inspired by images I found online. My class adored this topic, so I hope yours do too.
