Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream Assessment based on Act 1 Scene 1

Differentiated lessons and resources leading to an assessment based on Act 1, Scene 1 (Helena's soliloquy). Pupils will also need a copy of the text. For lower ability, the lesson plan states they will need a modern version alongside the Shakespearean. This can be found online but I can't replicate it here for copyright reasons. I used these assessments with year 7. There are 3 tiers to the lesson plans depending on ability. Assessment objectives are based on new GCSE criteria, particularly for AQA. These lessons check understanding, ability to use quotes, to analyse language, to link to context of women in Shakespeare's time.

This resource can be used with KS4 students to practise for their English Language Exam Paper 1 (fiction) - explorations in creative reading and writing. There is an extract, 5 questions which mimic the style of the exam and guidance for the types of things students might write in their answers. This could be used in class as a practice exam, given to pupils for homework, worked through with the pupils in class or just given to them as revision materials.
