Whole Class Reading slides to support the reading of Fairy Tales, The Villain’s Version by Kaye Umansky Dear teachers, These slides can be adapted to suit your lesson timings. I generally spend a 30-40 min daily reading lesson as follows: Day 1: vocabulary: I use dictionaries to research the words and get pupils to practice orally defining word meanings.Teacher read, pupils follow along and search for the words from the grid Day 2: recall vocabulary - using the fluency grid, I define a word for them to recall. Mutter read. Echo read and timed read. Echo read: Get them to imitate you, line by line. The focus is expression! Timed read: You read it first in a natural speed with a stopwatch on. If your time is around 40 secs, tell pupils to aim for 40-60 (Stress that it’s not a competition! They shouldn’t rush and try to beat your time. Day 3: recall vocab, repeat echo read, partner read, independent read. Day 4: Partner read, independent read, Questions (model the first 2) Day 5: review and finish off any unfinished work.
