Year 5 Guided Reading - independent activities linked a variety of reading viper and reading gems

I made this week’s worth of planning for our children to get on with independently whilst we benchmarked and moved children up book bands. There are a variety of reading viper tasks : Infer, Retrieve, summarise, explore, predict etc. There is a whole class text you can use but the flipchart gives the children a choice of using their own book if it will engage them more. The plan offers an overview of five lessons. We only need four for our week though so it’s resourced for four lessons.

I used this for the first week of our place unit. There is a 4 day plan of what we wanted to cover. We tried to do a mix of practical and written work to get the evidence. This planning is based on the white rose scheme of work. Within this pack there is a 'cold task' which uses some of the white rose activities to do an initial assessment before the unit begins to help gauge what you need to teach. We used a range of practical resources to get them used to making number past 20. We used numicon, coins, tens frame to create a poster. We did the poster on sugar paper (I had written differentiated numbers in the middle) they worked in small groups to make the number in different ways. The winning team got to tape down their equipment so we could put it on our working wall. The songs we used as starters. The children already can count in these numbers just by me humming the tune, note the singer has an american accent. I do not own these you-tube videos. They are uploaded by Mr R but have been a great tool to use. The presentation is made using the activ inspire software.
