This is designed to cover the , Level 3, Unit 1 Government and Politics, Assignment B. It looks at the alternative voting methods to the First Past the Post system in the UK. It extensively covers the second assignment.

This presentation covers the first section of the UPS Citizenship unit, ‘Exploring the key features of Society’. This can often be quite a dry topic, so I have attempted to keep it entertaining. The PowerPoint provides talking points and there is also a question sheet to check knowledge.

This presentation extensively covers the topics needed for Learning aim A: Explore working skills used in the public service sector.

This is a set of teaching aids suggesting an approach to answering learning aim B. The original suggestion is to: a) Simulate an incident – which is tricky in a college environment; or, b) Perform a crime prevention campaign. I have designed a classoom activity that gets the learners performing a presentation on two main relevant topics. This is designed to be performed in groups of three and it was very successful. The learners can even mark each other anonymously. It is a self contained solution to this assignment.

To replace the table top exercises. Both Units 13 - Command and Control, and Unit 15 - Planning and Management of Major Incidents, have an assignment based on a Table-Top exercise. This is very tricky to do withou the equipment and manpower. An easier way is a PowerPoint exercise. This is the test presentation and the answer presentation plus question sheet and back-up info. A complete lesson to assist with the assignments.

An intro to parliament with a particular look at the main ministerial departments. There is an exercise for the students to do to test their knowledge during the Presentation. Also there is a test at the end of the lesson to check learning.

An introduction to the Media: this can be used for the BTEC Public Services Unit, or as a general introduction to the subject of media. It explains what we mean by the media, the different types of media and explains all the key terms. It also poses a few questions to the learners .

This is to prepare learners for the first assignment of Unit 17 Preparing to Respond to Emergency Incidents; Learning aim A: Examine the causes of emergency incidents.

An introduction to Unit 4, Discipline in the Uniformed Public Services. This is designed to make students think about the role of discipline in their lives and society in general. It will provoke discussion and contains some written tasks.

This complete lesson looks at how discipline in maintained in the Public Services via Acts and legislation. I have also taken a detailed look at self-discipline in its practical guises whilst working for a Public Service. It contains an in-lesson exercise and discussion, and an exercise to check understanding. this can be a dry topic but hopefully this lesson will be entertaining and accessible.

This covers not only Assignment B of the Media Unit; but provides lots of additional information and further reading. It serves to encourage the students to think about the Media and do their own research, as well as providing lots of information.

A 24 question contemporary quiz on a PowerPoint with a pre-prepared answer sheet, these topics are thoroughly researched with links provided to the source of the answers. All these questions can generate discussion. It’s the chance for a teacher to put their feet up a bit!

This is a look at Part B of this topic (Part A is also available on this site). This can be a dry topic but, hopefully, here I have made it accessible and even light-hearted in places. This lesson generates discussion and has a short test to check knowledge.
