These resources go alongside the story ‘Words and Your Heart’ by Kate Jane Neal. It includes different sentences, words and captions that the children discuss and decide if they are words that help or words that hurt. For example ‘Are you ok?’ and ‘I don’t like you!’. It also includes ‘My words have power’ sheet; the children can write and draw how they can use their words to look after eachother’s heart.

I use this during transition day so I can get to know my new class. I like to did 1:1 so I can get to know them better and it only takes a few minutes. Once they have done them, I keep them and display them in class in September. That way, when they walk into class, they can see their work and it shows them that it is their classroom now. I am a Year 1 teacher.

I’m a year 1 teacher and I always use these at the start of term. It’s a great way to get to know the children but also a great oracy activity.
