This three-lesson mini-unit uses The BFG and the new BFG Christmas advert as an engaging seasonal stimulus for English and Art. Designed for KS2, the sequence develops descriptive writing skills, encourages creative thinking, and provides a festive art activity inspired by the dream-catching world of the BFG. Across two English lessons, pupils explore character description techniques, generate imaginative adjectives to describe their own giant, and write a detailed descriptive paragraph. They then use AI to bring their giant to life visually, adding excitement and motivation to the writing process. Each English lesson includes retrieval starters, a GPS warm-up, and an “Improve This Sentence” section to support progress. The unit concludes with a creative Christmas-themed art activity in which pupils design and decorate BFG-style cut-out ears and create their own festive “dream jar” after watching a child-friendly instructional video.
