Literacy Lesson - creative writing
A lesson used several times over in interviews and for OFSTED. It has been graded outstanding by OFSTED and SLT members at a variety of schools. Fabulous for a Literacy lesson developing language skills and easily adapted. This is planned for a Year 2 class but can been adapted for Year 3, 4, 5 and 6!
The lesson focuses on the picture Tiger in a Storm by Henri Rousseau. It begins with a letter being read about someone going on holiday to a wonderful new place and they capture an incredible photo (the letter should be written by you based on the knowledge of the class but I have included an example). The letter describes the location and encourages children to identify adjectives. It continues to then show the picture and encourages children, through speaking and listening, to explore language. By the end of the lesson the children, through various activities, will have created a piece of creative writing to accompany the image.
