In this unit, Year 5/6 pupils explore in greater depth key Christian teachings and biblical texts relating to what it means to be human. They apply this learning to the lived example of Anne Askew, a sixteenth-century Protestant Christian who was eventually executed for her beliefs during the Protestant Reformation. Using questions and methods drawn from theology, history and philosophy, pupils investigate continuity and change in Christian worldviews, considering how beliefs influence people’s lives and actions. Through discussion, enquiry and the study of case studies, pupils develop their understanding of Christian worldviews and the experiences of Christian women across different periods of history. This resource has been written to support the Lincolnshire Agreed RE Syllabus for Year 5/6. It also includes a class display folder, containing materials that can be used throughout the unit to celebrate pupils’ learning, reinforce key vocabulary and concepts, and create an engaging RE learning environment.
