A hands-on, low-resource 6-session Science PBL project designed for SEND, KS2 or lower KS3 learners. Pupils become “Science Detectives” as they investigate everyday materials through practical experiments, including insulation, separating mixtures, acids and alkalis, friction and scientific observation.
A 6-session hands-on Science PBL project where pupils become “Science Detectives” and investigate everyday materials through practical experiments. Includes insulation, separating mixtures, acids and alkalis, friction, observation, prediction, recording results and a final Science Showcase. Designed for SEND, KS2/lower KS3, Entry Level and alternative provision learners using low-cost, everyday resources.
A hands-on practical lesson exploring how germs spread through touch and shared objects, how to clean surfaces safely, and how to recognise common COSHH hazard symbols on cleaning products. Ideal for SEND, KS2, lower KS3, alternative provision, life skills, science, health and safety, or employability sessions.
This practical Glitter Germs & Cleaning Safety lesson helps pupils understand how germs can spread through hands, shared objects and surfaces using a simple glitter demonstration. Pupils then follow a safe cleaning routine to remove the glitter “germs” and learn how cleaning products should be used and stored safely.
The lesson also introduces COSHH — Control of Substances Hazardous to Health — in a pupil-friendly way, helping learners recognise common hazard symbols such as corrosive, toxic, irritant/harmful, flammable and environmental hazard.
The resource is designed to be practical, low-prep and accessible, with clear routines, visuals, sorting tasks and an exit ticket to check understanding.
Pupils will work towards being able to:
explain how germs spread through touch and shared objects
clean a surface properly using a safe routine
recognise hazard symbols on cleaning products
understand why some products need adult supervision or locked storage
explain key safety rules, including never mixing cleaning products
The lesson is suggested as a 45–60 minute session, but it can easily be shortened, extended or adapted for different learner needs.
