This is a script we developed as a class for a Victorian Assembly based on similar elements from the original Horrible Histories series. I have used this many times and it's always been a hit!
I started doing this a long time ago as a way to reflect on Year 6 with the students to allow them to see what they have done, what has changed and what they hope for the future. They always enjoy it and spend a lot of time really thinking about the information that they write inside. It becomes very important to them and a lot of fun.
I use this at the beginning of the year with KS2 students to identify areas of weakness and strengths to then group children effectively for English classes. I would use only some of it for younger students and more for older. Completely editable to suit your needs :)
I used this with my Year 6 Class in learning about the Victorians, in conjunction with learning how to use the internet more effectrively for research, to research famous Victorians so to be able to write Biographies
A table created for students to actively use in order to find out more about World Rivers, using Google Maps, including the countries that it flows through, the source and more…
Editable resource to help you in your teaching :)
To help students take more responsibility for their learning, and to be able to cerate targets on a more consistent basis, I have created some self-evaluation sheets, which can be edited to your own specific needs.
These are made for Year 6 but you can include whatever targets you require for whatever subjects you want.
In each section; reading, writing and math, it is possible to move the targets from where the students feel that they are in this moment into a secure area when they feel they have significantly improved their confidence.
There is also a section where I usually include photos of work. I refer to this when I am carrying out parent meetings and ask the students to use these regularly so that it becomes kind of like a record of achievement.
An editable plan for students to use when investigating a topic in Science. Includes all relevant sections with questions to guide the student in completing an effective plan before experimenting.
In my class, I found that getting children to read outside of school felt like a chore for most of them and those that read regularly were the ones who were generally passionate.
We debated the best way to read and what everyone enjoyed and, from that session, we found 4 ways that each child could choose to read, or be read to, on a weekly basis.
We started the year with possibly only 40%-45% of the class reading, at least five times a week, to now having 100% of the class reading 5x a week without fail.
Why not see if our method will improve your reading among your students. Download our poster and see the joy it can bring :)
A motivating writing activity that provides students with an opportunity to practice descriptive writing skills. This resource includes materials to help students to complete a topic-themed descriptive writing task, using their skills in persuasive language. You will find a planning sheet to get your class started, a draft plan to help with the writing and a final copy for display.
Happy Halloween!
