Primary Simply Solve
This resource was written for pupils in Year 5 and Year 6 at primary school, although it could also be used with Year 7 if thought appropriate. At the heart of “doing” mathematics is problem solving, which is the focus of this material. It also aims to encourage a collaborative approach to finding solutions to mathematical problems, while encouraging discussion and being prepared to try new ideas out, even if they don’t work.
The resource has three pages.
The worksheet for the pupils. This also gives advice on the approach they need to take to solving mathematical problems.
The answers for the teacher to use at their discretion
Worked solutions and extension activities.
It is suggested that pupils work in groups of mixed ability. Groups of 3 generally work well, but that is a decision for the teacher who will know their pupils.
Have fun!
