This resource outlines what simple, compound and complex sentences are, explains independent and dependent clauses and demonstrates the use of conjunctions and subordinating conjunctions. It provides examples of how paragraphs should be broken up for dialogue and to emphasis key points of the text. A prior knowledge of literary devices such as metaphor, simile and descriptive language is assumed. The students demonstrate their understanding of the material covered by taking basic writing prompts and turning them into creative writing using different types of sentences, paragraph construction and descriptive language.
