Home and town reading exercises, with questions to prompt writing. Suitable for KS3 or foundation KS4. Have now amended this to include a comprehensive vocab sheet to allow students to write paragraph answers to the 8 questions on the sheet, as well as pointing them to linguascope.com
We regularly tell students to revise or learn for homework, but in my experience they do not always know how. In particular, preparation for controlled assessments is very specific. Here I have put together some of the strategies I find work best for both speaking and writing. Should be delivered in one fast-paced lesson. I really hope it is helpful.
A home-school communication booklet used to track sessions / lessons based on engagement and emotions. Linked to Zones of Regulation, but can be used with no knowledge of the intervention. Facilitates reflection and student engagement with recognising and articulating mood and impact.
Useful throughout primary school (Reception - Year 6), specialist / ARP environments and can be used in secondary, depending on student’s responses. Requires input from and therefore increases communication with family. Student can be involved or take ownership of the booklet’s use, if able, or it can be completed on their behalf.
I am super-proud of this resource and, as Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion, developed it across settings and contexts. Best used with coloured sticky dots, but equally can be completed with felt tips.
Over the years I have found that the same tricky vocab comes up time and again. This odd-one-out activity is designed to get students thinking about the association between questions and answers. The first page is the most important (foundation) and the second page is more challenging. I believe this resource is invaluable!
All your students need to create a homework project (independent learning task) and use linguascope for the unit of work Chez Moi, Ma Maison, Ma Ville. Includes contents page, evaluation sheet and comprehensive vocab handout. This fits our Scheme of Work, but you could ofcourse reorder it.
Describing family members and friends, matching adjectives with English. Begins with colouring-in task to suit middle or low ability KS4 students, with progression to paragraphs and writing frame. Suitable for cover lesson. Maps to Metro 4, Module 2 or Expo Rouge/Vert, Module 1.
Worksheet - simple or slightly more complex. This wierd house needs its rooms labelling. Layout looks wrong but prints ok. Can be done as a time challenge, starter or plenary or homework with 'create your own example' extension.
This is designed to get students to work together to brainstorm and revise a whole range of GCSE vocabulary prior to reading and listening exams. It is suitable for all abilities. I have always found it highly successful and enjoyable. Have plenty of rewards and praise handy. Can be adapted for any textbook or vocab list resource.
Game to build on describing characteristics of friends and family. Maps to Metro 4 Rouge or Vert, Module 2, but also to Expo Rouge / Vert, Module 1. Personalities. Suitable for whole range of abilities.
Lesson introducing Le Futur Simple to Year 9 or Year 10 students for interactive whiteboard, using SmartNotebook software. Resource I am proud of.
Don't think I've classified this correctly as it seems strange not to have a 'for teachers' tag?! However, I would really appreciate feedback if anyone does find or use this. Ooodles more to upload if it's of interest. Have included lesson plan.
Interactive whiteboard lesson with lesson plan and accompanying verb table. To revise past, present and future. Need mini-whiteboards and preferably dice.
Year 7 or KS2 French. Template to challenge students to make a wordsearch useful... the best examples can be used to copy for other students so as starter for next lesson you have four or five wordsearches in operation.
Students really enjoyed this. Finished with presentation to class. So far only attempted with highly motivated class - probably need tweaking for less able or ambitious.
