YEAR 7 SCHEME OF WORK FOR MATHS

(25)
The scheme of work was created several years ago. This is the FIRST VISUAL SCHEME OF WORK(possibly of it's kind in the world) for maths that I designed. At the time I created this using Activstudio (PROMETHEAN) and also exported as a power-point. The reasoning behind this was accessibility for teaching assistants and cover teachers. This was further embedded as an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) document. Please feel free to edit and ameliorate it further.

I’ve done this Design Technology project a few times now and it’s always a winner - I’ve never known a class that wasn’t absorbed by this so I’m really happy to be offering it to you for free. Depending on your students, I would use this project for approx 10 to 15 hours of class time. (There is a bit of homework in the shape of resource gathering.) Please note, this resource is just a power point in student-friendly language which outlines the whole project and can be used at the start of the project in your introduction and can be on hand throughout for the students to consult. There’s no mark scheme, assessments, etc. Students work in pairs (they have the option of working individually or you can change the wording on the power point). I hope you have fun with it!

This IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) interdisciplinary unit enables MYP3 students to focus on United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11, “to make human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.” It demonstrates, through case studies from the Aga Khan Award for Architecture and the Aga Khan Historic Cities Programme, how culture impacts spaces and spaces impact culture. The unit is centred on developing interdisciplinary learning outcomes and subject-specific learning objectives in design, individuals and societies and language acquisition and/or language and literature courses in the host country language(s).

MYP - Compilation of resources and links

This is a collection of resources I compiled for my MYP team. While these are not resources for lesson delivery necessarily, there are helpful links to blogs, videos, webinars, Twitter feeds, and other material to help teachers starting out in the MYP program. I simply collected these links, and I take no credit or responsibility for the content of blogs or websites included in this document.

The death of Jesus (Crucifixion)

Fifth lesson in a series of work focusing on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. This lesson students learn about the harsh realities of crucifixion and consider a range of reasons why Jesus died and who might have been responsible for his death before finishing up with the Eater trolley problem. MYP - Language Acquisition - Criterion A (listening) - Media Bias

(3)
This is a collection of listening exercises I did with my students as part of the new MYP Language Acquisition guide. We studied the structure of a news report but also analysed bias and placement and use of images, and used that to assess strand iii, as well as increase understanding of multimodality. These resources are not perfect, as this is my first time creating listening exercises for this new guide, so please adapt them to your own circumstances or make improvements as necessary.

MYP - Language acquisition Criterion B sample assessments

These are a few examples of reading assessments I created for my upper emergent and lower capable (phase 2 and 3, possibly 4) learners. They were for a unit on Influence and Perception with a focus on advertising on the one hand, and the other one was on Quests with Beowulf/graphic novels as one of the guiding texts. The texts are not mine, although I adapted them heavily to suit my students’ reading level, and I have included the source for each one as a hyperlink in the document. I took a slightly different approach with the use of images with the articles, but hopefully the text can still be considered multimodal. There are two task-specific criteria documents attached as well.

*For the IB MYP curriculum but can be edited for KS3 Statement of Inquiry: “Stories have been used to dispossess and to malign. But stories can also be used to empower, and to humanize. Stories can break the dignity of a people. But stories can also repair that broken dignity.” (Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie) Inquiry Questions: Factual: What is prejudice? What are the effects of prejudice? What has shaped your ideas about different cultures? Conceptual: How do writers use language to show the dehumanising effects of prejudice? Debatable: How does the media and literature present people of colour? To what extent does the media and literature affect our perceptions of people of colour? What effect has your education had on your perceptions of people of colour?
