A KS3 graphics DT project that encourages students to raise awareness of the global goals 14 and 15. Full term project with slides and workbook. The project will first introduce students to the importance of good graphic design. They will learn the importance of imagery and symbols and then follow a brief history of how graphic design has developed over the years. The project will then progress by introducing them to the fundamental elements of graphic design. The students will learn about layout, colour theory, typography and more. Students will then be given a design brief to raise awareness of the global goals through the design of a graphic leaflet. They will then follow the design process to meet their brief. A great prject to introduce students to graphic design. 8 lessons, 42 slides and accompanying workbook.

Start with definition of sustainable development, then differentiated comprehension task on understanding why they were created and the difference between them and the millennium development goals. Students will learn about the Sustainable Development Goals, understand what they are, and devise ways in which everybody, globally, can contribute to achieving these goals.

This is a series of 4 money lessons that link to the Global Goals (SDG 1 No Poverty). It’s a pretty hard hitting topic and will definitely be pertinent to many of your pupils (1 in 4 children in Scotland currently growing up in poverty). Looking at coins with fun, open ended activities, the lessons centre around cost of the school day, uniform, wages, wealth inequality and budgets. I intend to take my class through taxes and government spending, as well as enterprise activities but will look to upload those slides at a later date!

A lesson to introduce students to global issues and the sustainable development goals. Activities designed for a 1 hour lesson. Includes a variety of tasks e.g. think pair share, placing issues along a continuum line and justifying choices, video clip with a question and answer sheet and a final creative task. All can be adapted to suit your class. Designed for KS3, Year 9 geography but would be suitable for citizenship lessons too.

A Spiderman themed day of learning all linked to the Global Goals. Easily adapted for most primary stages, pupils cover a wide spread of curricular areas (literacy, numeracy, HWB, science and STEM) Create a play sandbox and help spiderman save the day. Write a newspaper article. Calculate how much it cost to make the spidey suit. Workout with spiderman and consider what muscles you are exercising. Discover the incredible science behind spider silk and see how scientists continue to try and learn from nature. Finally, become a true group of Avengers and work as a team to create a web of string to save a bus from plunging into the sea.

A series of 5 lessons that explores budgeting and calculating percentage increase/decrease all whilst discussing the Global Goals: "You now work for Breakwater Bank. Your first client has asked you to invest £200 in a variety of companies. They are looking for you to buy shares in businesses that are looking to rapidly expand. You must read and understand the goals of each business before deciding how many shares you will buy. You need to calculate your expenditure, display your investments in a graph and email your client justifying your decisions"

Folding a square piece of paper into four and chopping on line to the centre, you can create small backdrops for peg dolls or other characters. Using the scene descriptors included in this pack (which all link to the Global Goals) pupils can scan for key information, before drawing onto their paper to create a vivid scene.

This is a whole day of Encanto learning, with 6 curricular areas being covered. Literacy: I would envision having learners use garageband to record their own podcast but you could even have them do so with the audio recorder that comes as standard on iPads. Alternatively, they could simply record a short interview or promotional video discussing the importance of representation. Maths: volume of cuboids and cubes (following a concrete, pictorial, abstract approach) Art: Origami butterfly and discussion of the symbolism Science: I would look to draw on an interactive whiteboard with the simulation however pupils could observe and jot on their own whiteboards or even create models with playdough? The dancing raisin experiment DOES NOT replicate the water cycle but it does show gases and liquids interacting and CAN be illuminating to understanding evaporation. Dance: Bachata isn’t originally a Colombian dance (it’s Dominican) but it is popular in the region and some of the dances in the movie use steps and elements from the genre.

A fun and easy resource to engage students with the UN Global Goals and to decorate your classroom at the same time! Students choose which Global Goal paper chain they would like to create and write their Goal for the Goal on the back of their chain. Black & White version and Colour version available.

An extensive lesson plan to the Global Goals Food Project.

A KS3 CAD/CAM DT project that introduces students to the global goals and encourages them as designers to create solutions to target global goal 15 : Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. The resource contains a 60 page slide show that has been divided into 7 structured lessons. The resource has an accompanying project booklet and other resources. This is a brilliant project that I have delivered to KS3 students over the past few years and they really connect with it and adore their outcomes. A great introduction to Design and Technology as the project follows the design process. Students will start by analysing the globals goal and exploring the design context. Students will then analyse existing products, create intial ideas, learn about CAD/CAM, learn how to use 2D design, create their product and finally evaluate.

A Short STEAM project for KS3 students that introduces them to sustainability, renewable energy and encourages them as designers to create solutions to target global goal 11.2 : Sustainable Cities and Communities, affordable and sustainable transport. The resource contains a 20 page slide show that has been divided into structured lessons. The resource has an accompanying project booklet which can be printed for students to work in, the booklet is editable and can be inserted into a larger booklet containing multiple projects. This is a brilliant project that I have delivered to KS3 students over the past few years and they really connect with it and enjoy building and racing their outcomes. A great introduction to STEAM as the project follows the design process. Students will start by analysing the globals goal and exploring the design context. Students will then learn all about fossil fuels and the problems caused by their overuse, students will be introduced to renewable energy sources and then set the challenge of designing and manufacturing a wind powered car. The project includes information about forces and motion and allows students to understand these elements of physics in a practical setting. All resources are completely editable.

Power points and lesson plans to support lessons 1 & 2 in my sustainability booklet. Lesson 1 begins by looking at current global problems and potential challenges we may be faced with over coming years. Students then examine the millennium development goals and use research and statistics to determine the extent to which they have/haven't been met. This then leads into the sustainable development goals as set by the UN and ends with a homework research task on these goals. In lesson 2 students consolidate their understanding of sustainability and start to evaluate how sustainable they are as human beings before considering actions they can take to be more sustainable. Next they examine how sustainable their school is and work in small groups to create a sustainable school.
