Year 2/3 Addition and Subtraction

(3)
I teach the lower set of Year 3 mathematicians in our school and developed these resources to help them visualise how column addition and subtraction work. We start with expanded method in year 3 as we want the children to fully understand the value of each digit. The Place Value Grid is brilliant for helping children add and subtract using the column structure with Base 10. I then use the 2 diennes sheets to move them from concrete to pictorial (slightly Singapore maths linked). The other sheets are linked with STAR maths (See it, Try it, Apply it, Reason it) and I tend to use these along with try it questions on the whiteboard for the children to answer. Hope you find these as useful as I have.

KS2 Jabberwocky Poetry Week Mini Project

(0)
A week-long plan focussed on the Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll (from Alice through the Looking Glass). Pie Corbett inspired - the activities throughout the week focus on vocabulary and explore word classes in a slightly more interesting way. We used this with Year 3 and they really enjoyed investigating the nonsense words and making their own, however it would work really well with Year 4 too. Included is the plan for the week and the resource sheets we used, labelled with which day they are needed. Feedback would be gratefully received.

English Non-Negotiables/Basic Skills

(0)
Non-negotiable poster for every year group. We display them in every classroom so that the children know what is expected of them when they are writing. They were developed in order to tackle the 'summer dip', making children aware that we know what they learnt with their previous teacher and that we expect this standard of learning to continue. We put our school logo at the top of each poster.

Pirates! Homework Project 5 weeks

A summary booklet for a pirate themed home learning project for a 5 week period. 4 'extra information' sheets are included to send out weekly in order to support completion of each section of the project. Parents really appreciated these as they contain key vocabulary. Children are asked to create a Pirate Handbook, guiding hopeful pirates on the correct way to do things. Our Year 4s love it and it linked really well with the topic we were studying.

Reading and Writing Numbers Jigsaw

(0)
A set of 4 piece jigsaws to aid my lower ability maths group in recognising and writing 2-digit numbers. Children are to complete the jigsaw pieces (which don't need to be cut up) by writing the number in numerals and words, partitioning it and representing it in picture form (I used Base 10). I used this to create some really nice posters for display.
