This is a lesson suitable for foundation age pupils and aims at looking at how they sort the variety of objects they collect from a plant walk.

Part of a series of resources for 5-6 year-olds, this lesson involves taking the children on a walk to discover some specific plants. Children will be using their observation skills to help them match or compare living plants with an image.

Phenology is the study of the seasonal life cycles of plants and animals. Scientists at Kew have been logging the flowering time of plants since the 1950’s.

This is one of many fun and educational activities from the 'Following in Darwin&'s Footsteps Storybook&';. Children can go on a ‘Thinking Walk’ and collect petals, seeds and small leaves using sticky tape.

This activity helps children understand and discover biodiversity in their own environment. They will also learn how important plants are in everyday life and why it is important to protect them.
