A detailed 3 week unit on the first 15 chapters of Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell. Includes lots of focused whole class reading lessons with the following foci: inference through impression 3 mark style questions (with scaffolds) find and copy questions clarifying meaning of words and phrases retrieval authorial choices The unit includes a writing outcome of a setting description of a mysterious room in the hotel the characters stay in. There is embedded SPAG teaching of main, subordinate and relative clauses. There is also a focus on how to effectively proofread and edit writing. Using the animated BBC Class Clips version of The Tempest, this short writing unit works towards children creating their own dramatic monologue in character as Caliban. Year 6 Narrative Writing unit approx 10 lessons. Based on animation ‘Chaperon Rouge’ a modern version of Little Red Riding Hood. Includes analysis of writing, slow writing and planning to lead into a narrative which includes atmosphere and tension. Includes SMART file and resources. This unit refers to ‘Descriptosaurus’ which can be purchased separately and complements this unit of work well.

Fun for Roald Dahl Day/Book Week. 10 rhyming clues to book titles by Roald Dahl. Children to try and guess the book titles and write them on the answer sheet. You can hide the book covers around and children can go to find them to make it a treasure hunt.
