This can be used as an engaging starter activity during a unit on databases to get students of all secondary age groups thinking about reasons behind trends in data. It uses a mash-up database on the web tracking the popularity of 15,000 baby names in the UK over the last 15 years. I also used a Google Form to capture students' answers - feel free to use/modify.

A one-lesson (potentially plus homework) activity that can be used as an ice-breaker in students' first Media Studies production lesson. Students research move poster conventions and then create a poster about themselves explaining to the rest of the class why they chose media studies. Based on an activity I found from a Canadian school blog.

A complete lesson aimed at GCSE Media Studies as part of an Advertising unit with a variety of activities on what brand values are. Students explore a range of different companies and an analysis of a TV advert. There's also a computer task to extend to two lessons.

This checklist combines the 'key ingredients' for the critical investigation mentioned in the textbook with the Assessment Objectives in the Edexcel markscheme. I use it while giving feedback to the students after they've submitted their drafts and to help with the marking.

A quick revision game for the Ownership topic LO1 of Cambridge Technicals Digital Media Unit 1. Print out, then get students to place counters, Connect 4 style, over each of the revision questions.
