GCSE Chemistry Structure and Bonding Tarsia

(14)
An elaborate sorting/matching activity. Print and cut out ready for students. You will likely need to refer to the 'solution'! I usually mark the middle 6 triangles and tell students to do these first otherwise they get a bit swamped. It will probably take them around 20 mins or more. Particularly good for revision/end of the topic. Originally designed for the old AQA C2 spec but pretty much all relevant to the new C2 spec I think and any other course featuring properties of different structures.

Particles lesson 6 KS3 Year 7 - Solubility & temp.

(14)
A powerpoint to be used as a guide during this lesson on solubility and how it is affected by temperature. Very 'practical skills' focussed, which probably explains the negative reviews below. See notes section for more directions/links. Fits in with a series of lessons for this topic. Includes directions for a practical and takes students through each of the steps to plan and write up their investigation. There is unlikely to be time to cover each section fully in one lesson, so choose a focus or spread the work out over a couple of lessons.

Ppt acts as a guide through the lesson and contains various activities. SOLO taxonomy used throughout. Learning objectives also SOLO linked. Includes mini plenaries. I also provide students with a placemat that has a topic mindmap on 1 side and glossary on other. I print it A3, colour & laminate. It is attached here: 'Respiration Mindmap'. One activity is to evaluate a model answer. You could use 1 or more question from file attached. I taught this as a 1 hour observation lesson and was graded 'Outstanding'. I developed it with help from teachers on twitter after #PlanningPanic so THANK YOU!

Respiration Question Cards and Loop Game

(1)
These are the same questions in two formats (as a loop game or question cards). For the question cards, i print out one set and laminate then give one to each student. Students then walk around the room and ask their question to someone else. They receive a question in return. Students then swap cards and continue. Run this for 5/10mins or however long you want and students keep count of their scores. For the loop game I challenge them to call out their answers before I can intercept...encourages their concentration!

Respiration Mindmap and Dictionary

(1)
I print this in colour on A3 paper, double-sided and laminate as a form of 'place mat' that students can have with them throughout the lessons for this topic. It encourages their independent learning as they can look for the meaning of words themselves. It also allows students to see where each lesson fits into the overall topic. Please leave you comments. Enjoy!
