Lesson to embed the skill of ordering and comparinglarge numbers and decimals.

Made for a Year 5 mid to lower ability group. Combining the skills of reading timetables and adding and subtracting decimals in the context of money. Children need to plan their train to the airport and flights to a destination from the 6 options ( I used the airport timetables from Twinkl) . The children have to try and ensure they are at the airport 2 hours before the flight departs and catch their train an hour after the flight lands on the way home. The second lesson looks at planning their holiday activities in the time allocated and within a budget. USed as an end of term task.

An adaptation of a murder mystery- focus on Olympics 2016. A worksheet on number calculations surrounding problem solving, fluency and reasoning.

I used this with a Lower Ability Year 5 class who were working more in line with the Year 4 curriculum. I bought these items from the supermarket and encouraged the children to estimate the mass of each item. I put the choices for the mass on the board for them to pick. A more able group may want to estimate without prompts.
