Structural Features and Readers Effect - visual resource
The ‘Structural House’
Struggling with remembering what a structural feature is? Here is a visual resource prompt created to support students learning about structural feature terminology and the effect on the reader.
Introduce in KS3/4 but great as a revision resource for GCSE English Language (particularly AQA and Edexcel).
What’s Included:
Instruction sheet - sheets explaining the idea behind the visual, how to introduce each feature and suggested activities
The Structural House’ image x3 -
1. a plain version for printing and laminating to A3 (or A4 if not available)
2. a lower ability ‘house’ (less features)
3. a higher ability ‘house’
Labels - a set for printing, laminating and cutting out
Structural Features Definition Sheet - each structural feature is clearly explained to help students grasp its meaning and the effect on the reader
Flashcards - a set of key structural feature key words with definitions for matching up
Please note that the structural features that I have included are ones that are generally the most common ones recognised and discussed in the GCSE programme. It is not a fully comprehensive list, and additional structural features could be introduced to pupils of a higher ability.
