Resources to support red cabbage indicator practical. Includes a true or false activity to complete at the start and end of the lesson. Students then complete the practical before looking at where this might be useful. Students write a letter to a farmer explaining how and why they could do this practical. Includes a writing frame for differentiation. There is also a resource for pupils to peer mark half way through writing the letter and then space for teacher feedback. Focus on practical work, application and literacy. Powerpoint, lesson plan, true or false activity, writing frame and review sheet all included.

Friction complete lesson, originally aimed at KS3 but could also be used at the top end of KS2. Students work in a booklet. Starts with a multiple choice quiz, scores to determine which activity they then complete. Lower scores - dragging tub over different surfaces, higher scores - gather data on different shoes on the same surface to explain what they already know about friction. Focus on practical/investigation work and differentiation. Includes an extra fun practical on friction and lubricants that all students love and provides some competition. This lesson was observed and the observer asked to stay longer because they wanted to take part themselves! Lesson plan, student booklet and powerpoint included. Literacy task included through an exit pass.

Very simple but effective demo as the ‘engagement’ activity. Focuses on how to write a scientific method. Differentiation available by choosing which student is A or B (if you know the class or have data which I didn’t but still worked fine). Lesson plan, powerpoint, card sort and worksheet (which includes space for improved answers).

A PowerPoint with recall starter, guided practice, independent practice, self and peer assessment, a hinge question, scaffolding and modelling. The model is using the students to represent each side of the equation and is a fantastic way for students to visualise equilibrium. The hinge question allows students who grasp the concept more easily to be challenged by having to link prior knowledge on the topic of rates to what they’ve learnt today and also pushes them forward to thinking about the Haber process. All resources (apart from 2 hula hoops, alternatively cones etc could be used to mark out an area on the floor, and ideally a fan) included. The PowerPoint has a voice over (if you view as a slide show) to explain the whole lesson, in particular the model. Alternatively there is a word document outlining every part of the lesson too. For higher ability KS3 or KS4. Students rotate around a series of practicals completing their differentiated booklet to gain a deeper understanding of particle theory. Includes the booklet, lesson plan, a stretch hwk task and the info on the practicals to be set up. Takes a while to get this lesson set up but is well worth it to extend their knowledge and allow independent learning.

Aimed at top set GCSE group. Focus on group work, independent learning and past paper question practice. Includes powerpoint, lesson plan and all resources (inc hwk). Differentiation by grouping and resources. Chances for peer and self marking. Checkpoint activity included to assess learning.

KS4 respiration lesson. Includes the powerpoint, a 6 mark extended answer question with WAGOLL at the start to show students what they are aiming for. All worksheets included either in ppt or separately. Worked well with including the blowing custard powder into the Bunsen flame to show energy is released.
