The following slides include a variety of Paper 1, Question 1 questions on 19th, 20th and 21st texts. I have used the following texts: Great Expectations, 1984, To Kill a Mocking Bird, Of Mice and Men, Wuthering Heights, Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, Animal Farm, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and Brave New World. These can be used as starters, plenaries, tests or set as homework by the class teacher. They are differentiated with some texts and questions that are easier than others; therefore they could be printed and given to students as a differentiated activity. The slides include the answers in purple which are set to come in on animation when viewed as a slideshow. To print, I would recommend saving two versions and then deleting the answers from one of the PowerPoints and printing them as slides. If you like this resource please see my Paper 1, Question 1. A full lesson which introduces the structural question of the AQA English Language Paper 1 examination paper. It covers some of the structural features that the exam board are wanting students to analyse and chunks down the question so students understand the requirements. The following SOW is to be used as an introduction for Y10-Y11 into the Serial TV Drama exam for Media Studies (Unit 1). There are 20 lessons each broken down into starter, main, development and plenary. Homework suggestions are includes as well as a list of resources needed. I have includes PPTs and documents / worksheets. The SOW allows for fortnightly exam lessons to be taught alongside the Controlled Assessments students have to complete. Resources that you will also need (DVDs of the TV dramas) are also listed.

A whole lesson PowerPoint for the new specification AQA GCSE English Language Paper 1, Question 2 on how to explore two narrative passages and analyse the language choices that the writers have used. The lesson is differentiated for all students with a choice of tasks for the starter and plenary. The lesson follows the AQA format of a question 2 and this lesson follows on from my previous presentation on Paper 1, Question 1. The lesson is not an introduction to language features and assumes that students already have knowledge of language features and sentence forms (I will be creating a separate lesson on this).

Included is a series of lessons used to plan and create a descriptive piece based on 9/11 and the film World Trade Center. This has been taught to Y10 and Y11 (KS4) previously as one of the AQA pieces of coursework and the Cambridge iGCSE coursework. However, it would be great to use as preparation for the (8700) English Language exam paper 1 (descriptive / narrative writing). There is a SOW and appropriate PPTs and Word document resources.

A complete lesson for GCSE Literature with differentiated tasks and questions to demonstrate to students how to approach an unseen poem (Does It Matter by Siegfried Sassoon) in the powerpoint, starter images related to the theme of the poem and a poetry mat guide so students can access and approach the poem individually. The lesson is designed to introduce students to the unseen component of the new AQA Literature exam Paper 2.

A full lesson focusing on the skills for Paper 1, Question 1 of the AQA English Language GCSE exam. The full lesson includes a deconstructed guide for students to be able to break down the question focusing on explicit and implicit information to help students gain 4 marks from a question which appears easy despite the demands of the implicit content being quite difficult. This lesson works alongside my other English Language resources - especially my ready made 10 question 1 questions. A PowerPoint to introduce students to A Christmas Carol assessment question. The PowerPoint covers the assessment objectives and how to approach this exam question by breaking down what an outsider is.

A presentation where students develop their understanding of the different types of camera shots and angles in Sci-Fi films. It also focuses on hybrid genres. Used with Y11 AQA Media Studies students.

A couple of Power Points and a document focusing on studying Macbeth for the new AQA English Literature paper 1 resources. This has been taught with Year 10 and allows them to understand the 3 assessment objectives the paper (section A) wants them to focus on (A.O.1-3). The resources include: a Power Point on an assessment question about Lady Macbeth with modelling by the teacher of how to approach an assessment question; a Word document on Macbeth's character (very similar to the specimen paper 1 question on Lady Macbeth provided by AQA; a Power Point reviewing the assessment students have undertaken on Macbeth's character. The lessons were taught with mixed ability students who found these lessons extremely useful.

A revision resource for Paper 1, Section A of the AQA English Language GCSE (8700). The resource is intended as a brief guide to the question types with the style of question, tips, terminology and sentence starters.

This is a detailed Unit of Work (scheme of work / learning) for teaching the AQA English Literature new specification course. The Unit of work includes: learning objectives, lesson outcomes, starter activities, main activities, plenaries, suggested homework tasks, the assessment objectives that each lesson focuses on, resources that are needed and where in the text you class needs to read to. The Unit of Work provides 36 lessons which is a full term's worth of work so that the narrative techniques, context and critical responses to the text can be studied.

This presentation was used with my Y11 AQA Media Studies students to analyse the different shot types, transitions and conventions of Sci-Fi trailers.

An assessment mat for students to work through a guided assessment on the Private Peaceful character of the colonel. The assessment mat is differentiated with a help and a challenge box for students of all levels to work through at their own pace. The assessment mat will take students one hour to complete and is best suited to KS3 students working at level 3-level 7 old national curriculum levels or 1-7 new GCSE levels.

This is one PPT which includes within it a series of 8 lessons for teaching the text, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde focusing on 10 chapters. I taught this with a middle ability Y9 group of students, but would be easily adaptable for the new specification English Literature GCSE examination (8702). The lessons include SMSC within the lessons taught. The only preparation needed is the creation of Bingo cards for one of the starter activities.

A differentiated writing mat for the novel Private Peaceful. This learning mat is to allow all students to work through the task at their own pace. The learning mat allows students to complete their own review of the novel Private Peaceful - I have used this with a mixed ability group at the end of the novel.
