This scheme uses the World and Lives Poetry Anthology as inspiration for an imaginative writing unit. Each lesson also starts with explicit SPaG skills practice. We have used this as a Y9 Unit but it could easily be adapted.
Six lessons to prepare students for introductory baseline tests in English. Tests included. Reading test uses a previous AQA KS3 Test. We use a Y9 due to our more able cohort.

33 weeks worth of spelling lists for Year 8. These last more or less the whole year and were used primarily for the setting of homework. Each list is themed to a particular word pattern.
This scheme of work was used with low ability Year 8 and explored the presentation of Shakespeare's various different heroes and villains in different plays.

This lesson, based on Pixar films was used for an interview lesson (I did get the job!) on Descriptive Writing. It was a full 60 minute lesson culminating in a writing task
This unit was taught as a supplementary module to go with a Gothic Writing Unit for Year 8. It was also used as a taster of media studies as it focuses on the techniques employed by directors/actors in the film. It culminates in an assessment of Woman in Black. Films/extracts needed:

This lesson was used with Year 7 students to introduce the use of different techniques used in film. It involves applying the different shots in clips from Spiderman, and exploring why directors choose different shots for effect.
One lesson exploring and comparing the Barack Obama Strikes on Syria Speech and Winston Churchill's We Shall Fight Them on the Beaches. I also asked students to compare the delivery of both speeches, which can be found on YouTube.
