This resource is for Assignment 2 (Narrative/Descriptive writing) for CIE IGCSE. It is based on the Simon Armitage poem 'Out of the Blue' and ends with the students writing a piece based on 9/11. You will need at some point some additional written stories - but there is a good website belonging to the 9/11 Memorial in New York. I have taught this to a few groups this year, and adapted as I went along (as well as Ofsted arriving at one point too!). I start with sentence writing first and make it very formulaic.

This is an Anthology for Edexcel English Language based on the theme of “Race and Culture”. There are seven Fiction extracts (five of which are 19th Century, the other two are 20th Century but appropriate), and seven Non-Fiction extracts. All extracts have relevant exam style questions attached. Includes some “saving grace” ideas for some media extracts too!

These lesson plans were written for a Year 10 class (Grades B-D) studying AQA Literature Section A. My group really struggled at the start with the language, so between Lessons 4 and Lesson 5, we watched the film and used a plot and character synopsis (borrowed from Spark Notes) until everyone understood the plot and characters. I will keep adding until I get to the end! ***The next set of PPs are separate as I can only add twenty files at a time! Will just call it 'To Kill a Mockingbird 2' :)

Use with Year 10 (B-D). Some PPs overlap a little as there is too much to do, so keep an eye on this!

I gathered these resources from a variety of different places. For a Year 11 class, we completed reading in two weeks - some of the lessons could be stretched out! I then used the text to get students to complete Assignment 1 for iGCSE - worked really well for those of usthat need to multi task with Lang and Lit at certain points.
