Improving Sentence Construction Activity

A great, easy-to-deliver lesson that students enjoy. Instructions for students to follow appear on each slide with examples. This step-by-step process will enable them to create a sophisticated complex sentence from a boring one. I find using mini white boards first works well during the creation stage but students can equally use their books. Suitable for year 7-9 but a bright year 6 or weaker year 10 would benefit from this too.

The Art of Word Craft is a 10-12 lesson, fully resourced scheme of learning suitable for year 6-8. Ideal as an introduction to writing or authorial techniques, this scheme introduces the importance of choosing vocabulary carefully and precisely. It allows students to experiment creatively and evaluate their choices. Linguistic skills covered: word choices, synonyms, sensory language, similes and semantic fields that match mood and atmosphere, alliteration and onomatopoeia to develop mood and character. Lesson plans are written in detail with Starter, Introduction, Development and Plenary. Each one has an accompanying powerpoint (with the exception of lesson 9 which uses the resource documents instead). Lesson plans include opportunities for differentiation.
