Lesson requiring specialist teacher input, designed for high achieving year eight but can be adapted to suit other groups. Explores the concept of evil in light of the recent Lee Rigby murder. Aim is to dis-spell some myths/prejudice and explore the concept of Jihad in the classroom. Potentially sensitive/explosive subject so careful handling will be needed (hence teacher-lead discussion). Lesson used to explore key concepts etc. before introduction to Plato and Aristotle. Thanks to the internet for associated readings (see links). Includes a student worksheet based on the Cornell note taking strategies and teacher notes. Purpose is to use philosophical discussion and reasoning to draw out knowledge and understanding. You will need a chair. This has been influenced by 'The IF Book&'. A great tool for philosophical inquiry with all age groups!

AT1 weighted lesson(s) exploring Hindu beliefs about God. Requires specialist subject knowledge and teacher input with discussion. Designed to encourage thinking skills - developed for high achieving year seven. Could be adapted for KS4.

Lesson Objective: to learn about Mai Bhago and Shastar Vidiya so that you can understand Sikh beliefs about equality. An interesting approach to equality - exploring the examples of the Sikh warrior princess Mai Bhago and the ancient warrior art form of Shastar Vidiya. Comes under the sub-topic of "The Oneness of Humanity" can be used as a stand-alone lesson or as part of a series of lesson on equality. Also useful for exploring SIkh beliefs towards war and violence and women/gender.

Key word revision activity. Focuses on the likely "a part" questions. Can be used individually or in small groups.

A booklet that covers all the keywords. It has pages on Christian evidence (quotes and teachings), Sikh and non-religious views. Lots of useful case studies are referred to and the columns show how the material could be used. Easily adaptable.

Excellent as a course overview, knowledge organiser or as a revision resource! Student-friendly yet exhaustive list of the knowledge requirements for the WHOLE Philosophy component of the EDUQAS A Level. Includes all themes and specific AO2 development statements. Some themes are more prescriptive in terms of knowledge than others allowing those less-confident students to feel more secure . Plenty of scope to adapt to suit your needs: it could be used as a form of assessment, homework activities, DIRT, self-reflection, revision, knowledge map/organiser etc. Based on the textbook and my own extensive knowledge of teaching A Level Philosophy.

Powerpoint with accompanying sound effects to control 'chatter' when working on tasks - designed for a particularly noisy year nine group! For anyone unfamiliar with Mario, the green mushrooms signify 'lives'. I allow the class to discuss ideas etc. in a whisper with their neighbour but if the noise level increases or they are off task they lose a 'life'. Three lives lost leads to silent working. I've uploaded sound files too but unfortunately most of them aren't 'recognised'. Some people have had success downloading the PP with sound intactso finger's crossed. Enjoy!

Exploration of key Islamic beliefs and a comparative task between Hindu and Islamic beliefs that can be assessed. Any feedback welcome!

Overview, self and teacher assessment, self-reflection document. I designed it to help me to keep a tight reign on the programme of study (I have a tendency to spend too long on this topic!) and to encourage my students to take more of an active role in their progress and learning. I'm hoping it will also help to encourage an open learning environment by encouraging the sharing of misconceptions etc.

Designed for high-achieving year eleven class for OCR 'Religion and Science. Can also be adapted for medical ethics. I have also presented it as a 'prezi' presentation to allow for independence or cover lesson. The 4thoughts are excellent and are great for encouraging debate and discussion. The essays produced by my class were outstanding. All comments happily received!

Differentiated lesson suitable for accessing prior learning, introduction or revision/review.

Designed to be a fun and motivating tool to encourage good behaviour and achievement of key skills such as punctuality. This particular design is for a new year seven form but this can easily be adapted to suit other groups. Activity can be peer assessed. I'm unable to upload the videos but if you go to 'youtube' and search for them they should come up (any portrayal of the 'I am that I am' quote will do - the tetris God went down well.
