Lesson for year 8 French, based on Expo 2 Rouge. In the starter activity students have to write the correct phrase under each picture. You can use this slide to introduce the vocabulary. After, students practise the pronunciation of the new vocabulary playing Beat the Teacher. After playing Beat The Teacher, use a soft ball to ask students: comment dit on sweets and chocolates en francais? (AFL) Then encourage students to say full sentences, for example: J'achete des bonbons et des chocolats, etc. Reading activity: students read the text and answer the questions (general reading comprehension) Extension: they underline time phrases in the text. After answering the questions in English, students find the sentences in French in the text. Focus on grammar point: avoir besoin de. Let the students work in pairs and work out the grammar rule. Now it's time to put the vocabulary they have learnt into practice by doing a speaking activity in which students assess each other (peer assessment). Writing activity to consolidate what they have learnt.
