Estimating calculations plenary

(10)
Spot the errors exercise for estimating/approximating calculations. Some answers are correct, a lot are deliberately wrong. Same activity presented in two formats (ppt for those who don't have Active Inspire). Credit to nvitamore for the original test questions and idea.

Straight lines - equation of and plotting

(12)
Powerpoint for delivery in class to identify the equation of a straight line from its graph, then plot lines from their equations. Two supporting worksheets (one borrowed from another TES user - I take no credit for the equation of a line from its graph sheet). Used with my Y10 class, writing/drawing the answers on over the powerpoint as we went through it. The sheet on plotting points in all four quadrants to form a shape was our starter. If you decide to use any bits please leave feedback about what could be improved/what you found helpful. Thanks.

Basic definitions for starting data collection

(3)
This is a just a list of definitions for a few key words and types of data and samples that I gave my year ten class when we started the GCSE syllabus. May be useful to anyone wanting to give a basic glossary for pupils starting to look at data handling/collection.

Probability Box

A very simple idea to make introducing probability a bit more engaging. Print cards stating standard probabilities that students will need to know then put them into an old, empty tissue box. Get students to pick out a card and state the fraction for the probability described on their card. (Eg. Probability of getting head when you flip a coin.) Some are very straightforward, others are more complex to prompt discussion. As always, feedback and suggestions for improvement appreciated.
