Two sets of revision questions using the format of the AQA Literature Paper 1 exam. The first set of tasks includes an extension question after each task, based on the same extract. The second set are differentiated to include some questions to guide planning the response.

I created this as a revision activity on the old specification and found that it worked well for helping students to make very precise connections between the poems at word level. I have updated it for the new specification, using the Power and Conflict cluster. This is a set of jigsaw pieces containing quotations from across the Power and Conflict cluster. The aim is for the students to find word level or imagery connections between the poems and then to be able to explain how the poets are using the same word or image in order to explore different aspects of power or conflict. Alternatively, the jigsaw pieces work well as flashcards to test the students' memory of the poems - how many of the poems can they identify from the quotations alone?

A complete scheme of learning totalling 16 lessons with all resources. Includes a range of action film clips and stimulus texts from writers such as Anthony Horowitz, Ian Fleming and Ernest Hemingway to focus on language and structures used to build tension and speed. Learning focus throughout is on links between analytical reading and imaginative writing, though speaking and listening lessons are also included as part of the unit of work. Marking criteria is drawn from Edexcel, though skills and writing foci are generic to all exam boards.
