This booklet contains information and resources for schools to give to parents to help students develop their reading skills at home. It can be uploaded to your school website as a support guide, attached to school reports or even put on yours schools online area for families to use at home. This was created for the Secondary setting but can be used at all levels and goes through advice around: What book to read, supporting a child who does not like reading, what questions to ask your child, how to help selecting a book, questions and quizzes for all types of books, activities a parent can ask a child to do to demonstrate comprehension and many more ideas. This resource has been used in a school in the South East and following it’s implementation, the parental engagement with reading improved significantly which had a knock on effect to the students reading ages. This can be adapted and used alongside programs like accelerated reader and there is opportunity to zhuzh this up with images and other school based ideas.
