A unit of work which looks at the key poems in the Power and Conflict cluster of poems. The unit follows a three-part lesson structure: - Lesson 1 is a recap of a key poem - Lesson 2 is further analysis of this poem - Lesson 2 is a comparison lesson Only the recap lessons have powerpoints provided, with a couple of additional lessons in there too. Otherwise, the lessons have suggested activities on the Word document. Included are context sheets and quiz questions for every poem in the cluster. Because of the new GCSE requiring some contextual background, these give students more information on the intentions of the writers.

Four revision resources, including two mock-style papers (no mark scheme) and two revision, step-by-step guides to the papers. These give students the chance to see how they can approach the papers. The mock papers are in order to provide 'past paper' style revision for the students (as there are not enough samples online). The sources are either nineteenth-century extracts or from past papers from other exam boards.

New spec AQA GCSE Lit and Lang- Macbeth SOW

(0)
A series of 5 weeks worth of lessons which focus on re-capping and revising the skills needed for the Macbeth section of Literature Paper 1. This series of lessons links the skills of the Literature paper with the skills of the AQA Language papers. This may become confusing for some students, so some lessons may need to be adapted to suit just the literature paper for lower abilities, however it has worked well across a range of sets. Lessons predominantly focus on approaches to planning, structuring an answer and linking the extract to wider themes and ideas. There is also an 'at home' guide for parents for revising the literature and language exams'. Not all of the lessons on the rough guide are covered because of time constraints.

There are 11 powerpoints, as the unit was cut short by mock exams, however the unit of work is 6 weeks long. Some powerpoints contains clips from YouTube.

New GCSE Specification Paper 1 Skills

(0)
This is a collection of 22 lessons based on using the new specification Paper 1 skills. We have chosen to use Of Mice and Men as the fiction text, as an introduction to the skills of the paper. Each question (1-4) is used as a focus for 1-2 weeks, and there are ways of assessing the skills used in questions 1-4 on the Powerpoints. Although we have not used a 19th Century English text for this unit, we have found that the lessons have enabled the students to learn the skills needed for the exam, whilst using a text which they enjoy reading. It is notable that we have skipped parts of the text when reading, so that students focus more on analysing an extract, which they will need to do in the exam. We have also avoided too much contextual information, so that students understand that they will not need to know themes/context for this book in the exam.
