Having analysed with my students the AQA 90 words essay requirement, my higher candidates asked whether I could have a closer look at the AQA 150 words essay to help them further. Using the AQA specimen papers and the Appendix 1 guidance from the 2018 markscheme, please find a star technique for content and what constitutes range of language. I have used the grade boundaries from the 2018 and 2019 exams with AQA French, Spanish and German to create an excel document that will convert students’results into grades. I will be using it for my Y11 mocks. Enter students total grades for each skill (listening, speaking, reading and writing). The total will be added up automatically and converted to the grade they would have received in the 2018 exam. I have taken into account the weighing of each skill so that they have an equal weighing. This task looks at what elements must be included in the 90 words essay to reach the top 16 marks. It is based on the specimen AQA paper ( and the model answers provided on the exam board website). It also contains a translation of the model paragraph and some exercises for students to better understand what is required of them.

This is a series of revision activities for each of day of December, aiming to address listening, reading and writing skills for 2021. Tasks use quizlet, pearsons revision workbook and the newly updated BBC bitesize. The writing tasks we give our students are from KateLanguages brilliant workbooks and not included here for copyright reasons. Hope this helps :)

These two booklets are to encourage students to research for homework (but could be done in anIT suite ) French and Spanish-speaking countries around the world. Students have been asked to create their own booklet for that country. Instructions are written in italics on each page and students have to right- click to replace the images and make it their own.

An updated ppt to use with Y9 about why study a language at GCSE. I compiled some existing ppt from the TES, resources from the net and the latest research from the British Council regarding the usefulness of Languages post-Brexit. There are quite a lot of youtube links, so you might not want to use all of them.

I used this map as a starter task as part of the Unit 5 from the AQA GCSE theme 2 topic on my region/ a complement to kerboodle textbook page 90.It could also be used for any explanation about France and its geography. We’ve discussed the DOM-TOM in a previous lesson using another worksheet I have already published but reattached here for convenience. We also listened to music by La Compagnie Créole and Zouk Machine. The 1jour, 1 question video is about the old regions but can be used as an extension. The maps are sourced from the internet and are credited on the sheet.

This resource includes a couple of different activities: A extended trap door on my town in French The translation in English in big strips so that students can put the translation in the right order. A small copy of the translation with differentiated tasks to work out what makes it a WAGOLL before students go on and write their own.

A worksheet on le tabac - includes a listening task based on a French anti-smoking campaign and an independent short reading task based on the price of cigarette in 2018 / infographics on who a typical smoker is in France. Ideal as an extended starter / part of a larger lesson on smoking.

This is a powerpoint presentation using some youtube videos to present an area of France - some basic geography, a focus on the song “Sur le Pont d’Avignon” giving it a modern twist by asking students to add what 2018 dancers they would have on the bridge. Requires dictionaries. The A4 pdf document was sourced on the internet.

Used with Y7 as a trapdoor exercise to embed speaking about a family member at length. Then I used the activity as a model - WAGOL (what a good one looks like). After having highlighted the correction (ppt) on their sheets, students use it as a writing frame for their own descriptions. Also comes with a translation.

Written task aimed at Y8 to showcase use of perfect tense. The Core sheet comes for Rachel Hawkes’s online resources.

This is a powerpoint I have used successfully on Y6 induction day. It involves teaching colours and creating a poem based on the colour of the rainbow in French.
