Designed originally for an UKS2 assembly, this powerpoint discusses the topic of equality, what it is, plus historic/modern day examples of people who fight for equality. This also requires the children to think about, not only what equality looks like in society but what it looks like in school. It asks them who is responsible for equality, making links to parliament and more closer to home, school staff and themselves.

Carefully designed to assess children's current understanding of electricity (from previous years also) - fun and resource-light way of gaining an understanding of their ability. Good to then project lessons from and identify gaps in knowledge.

Great resource for the planning of balanced arguments - documents include for and against booklets with room for 3 PEE paragraphs each. This structure encourages children to plan their ideas around different points which are well supported with evidence and explanations. I used with year 6 but could be suitable for any year group. Is flexible to any type of discussion.

Three weeks of maths challenges based on the new year 6 SATs arithmetic test. There are 3 per week (6 questions on each) for children to work through at the start of maths lesson. Time this according to their ability group and go through to sift through methods/misconceptions. I've had great success with this in previous years - results went from 8% pass rate to 79% just by doing activities like this routinely (class of 24). There are answer boxes like in the SATs for chn to work their answers out in - I've found it very beneficial for the children since they grow in familiarity with the test layout and structure. Feel free to edit/change for your class but it's a start!
