KS3 Descriptive Writing

(0)
A KS3 scheme of learning designed to support students develop their creative writing. The scheme is based around ideas and extracts in Marcus Rashford’s ‘You Are a Champion’. The scheme seeks to develop the skill of planning, using stimuli, developing SPAG inclusive of sentence starters, length of sentences, unusual paragraphing, developing appropriate vocabulary choices and punctuation for tone and effect. The class reader has been chosen as a stimuli to help our students access non-fiction at KS3 as well as a text that explores the importance of equality for all as well as self-belief and British values. In conjunction, the text is narrated by Marcus Rashford a notable and inspirational figure who has had challenging experiences but has overcome them positively; we want our students to be inspired to aspire and support them on both a social, emotional, and academic journey starting right here with this text. This SOL builds in constant discreet, low-stake assessments as well as supporting student metacognition through structured and modelled learning episodes including WAGOLLS and WABOLLS. Likewise, two explicit assessment points (formative and summative assessments) are included and embedded into the scheme.
